Picture Show
OK, not much inspiration for actual content, so I’ll post some pictures from our walk down to Gasworks Park last night. It was a lovely, summer-y (!) evening. Strolling through the Seattle Tilth garden, we saw this hummingbird flit around, then perch brazenly about 10 feet away. They’re usually a lot more skittish than that

Further down the hill, there was a car festooned with refrigerator-magnet words. I’m not sure if it was an invitation for passers-by to compose something, and I wasn’t willing to risk the ire of its owner by doing so. The reflection of Mrs. Perils is sort of interesting, though. I totally planned that.
Down at Gasworks Park, it was Prom Night for one of the area schools, with a photo session on top of Kite Hill. I’m tickled at how they’re standing in rows facing each other. In the picture on the left, the girl seems to be considering whether she needs to obey the sign on the fence.
These guys are definitely not headed for the prom:
I know you must get tired of this view, but I like these photos so well I can’t let them moulder in obscurity on my hard disk:
You have more interesting scenery to look at, a better camera, more photographic skills, and a better attitude than I. Dammit. Well, I guess I have some catching up to do. Nice photos, really! And of course you planned to capture the reflection of Mrs. Perils.
Second hand reflections are all that are allowable these days…
We’ve got some good scenery around here too, and I have the same camera, but what I really envy is the fact that you actually *do* something with your photos! I spent two full hours last week, in the middle of still having house guests (which is why I am so darn far behind on my blog reading) finishing up the captioning of my sets from recent trip– and then absentmindedly closed the tab without saving. AARGH! Beautiful stuff, Phil. Oh, and I’ll see your swimming bear and raise you two local river-exploring Humpbacks which were all over our own news last week.
Nice….went there for the first time this past trip.
Bought some fish & chips @ Ivers near there and ate at the park.
What a place. Too bad there’s not any interpretive exhibits there. ; (
Nice pics of the city. I love the reflection shot. Very nice. The clouds just rolled in. Temps dropped 10 degrees. It’s nice and cool.
Little late here. John - your photos from New Mexico, and your commentary, were exquisite.
Carroll - great to see you again! I’ve been following the saga of the misguided humpbacks. I’d actually given them up for Darwin-award candidates. I’m anxious to see your photos from Yurp.
CM - Gasworks does beg for explication. The hissing you hear there is from a contraption that’s installed to burn off benzene as it oozes up from the old substrate there. Washington Natural Gas, the successor entity to whomever operated the old coal gasification plant there, donated the land to the city for a park. When black crap started oozing up about 10 years ago, they partnered with the city in various ameliorative strategies. Despite what lurks beneath, it’s still a sweet, sweet venue.
Robin - Yeah, we’ve had our summer trailer film. Doesn’t hit the theaters until July.
